Chaos and Credence

9 Sep

In addition to our writing and editorial services, the mouse in my pocket and I also work on our own projects. One of these is something we call Chaos and Credence.

Chaos and Credence is a collection that will include short stories, essays, a few poems and scraps of nonsense, and a serialized novel. Some of it is stuff that debuted here. We’re hoping to have the first edition available for Kindle, Nook, and iPad by the end of this month. We’d like to make it basically a quarterly event.

Why “chaos and credence”? Well, because we think that phrase sums up life nicely: there’s a bunch of stuff that happens, and there’s what you believe all that stuff meant. It’s the perpetually incomplete and inaccurate map of the ever-shifting territory. It’s that pinpoint space where the best-laid plans run smack into reality. We live in chaos, and credence makes it possible.

Anyway, look for it soon. It’s about halfway written right now, and each day brings it closer to your greedy little grasp.

“Proudly Owned”

6 Sep

Last week we offered an opportunity for some quick fiction at discounted rates, and several people took advantage of this. And yesterday we delivered our first work of commissioned fiction – a very short story best described as a “faux-erotic Objectivist parody”. It was well received by the client, who described it as “excruciating, meaning perfect”.

While we’re not offering those same steep discounts any longer, there’s still plenty of opportunity to get in on the “commissioned fiction’ game.  Reach out and let us know what we can write for you!

Welcome!

I discovered my passion for writing in the second grade, and I’ve been exploring it in a variety of formats ever since. I specialize in clear prose that gets the point across in a way that entertains and illuminates. I deliver clear, memorable writing on time and as agreed. I’ve spent my career in the business world, so I understand the value of my clients’ time and energy: I respect deadlines and business requirements, and my goal is to get your message across, not my style.

Here are my current rates (effective September 5, 2011).

  • General writing or editing: $.30/word
  • Speech writing or editing: $.75/word
  • Creative writing commissions: $.10/word

Standard terms and conditions: the above rates include up to three revisions. Further revisions may be available at an additional charge at my discretion. I strongly encourage you to make your needs clearly known up front – I’m more than willing to work with you, but I do my best work when I’ve know exactly what you need. Partial payment up front is preferred, and full payment is due on delivery of the finished product. With your permission, brief excerpts may be used for publicity purposes.

Creative commission conditions: in addition to the three-revision rule noted above, please do not republish my work without my explicit permission.

Please use the contact form below to let me know how I can help you. I look forward to working with you!
